14U Gold Lady Mavericks Drop One and Take Two
CONCORD, New Hampshire- NH Comets, P. Hanson lead her team to victory allowing one earned run on six hits and two walks while striking out four. Lady Mavericks, Charlee Chute was tagged with the loss despite a strong performance in the circle allowing only two earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one.
Trailing 3-0 after four innings, the Mavericks took back one run in the top of the sixth when Leah Knight scored her 18th run of the season.
Due to time constraints the contest was called after the top of sixth handing the Mavericks their only loss of the day.
GAME TWO– Maise Larette lead the Mavericks 12-hit attack going 3 for 4 with three RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases in an astounding 17-3 victory against EFC Blue in game two of the Caroline Farley Tournament, Saturday afternoon. Ella Barden and Raylee Gilbert also had two hits a piece and collected two RBI.
Gilbert earned her fifth win on the mound giving up one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out three through five complete innings.
Scrapy Hutchins broke the game open in the bottom of the third with an RBI line drive single to center field. The Mavericks scored five more runs before ECF ended the inning on a fly ball to left field.
Falling behind 11-0, ECFB collected three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but that’s as close as they would get before the Mavericks pulled away with six more runs in the top of the fifth to capture their first win of the day.
GAME THREE– Gilbert went 3-3 with three RBI and one run scored to lead the Mavericks to a 9-1 win over Hurricanes Seacoast Blue in their last game in Concord, Saturday afternoon. Emma Fortin went 1-2 with two RBI and one run scored while Chute returned to the mound snagging her tenth win of the season giving up one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out five.
The Mavericks batted through their lineup in the third inning to plate seven runs and pull away from the Hurricanes en route to their second consecutive win of the day. Gilbert started the Mavericks third inning run with a line drive single to center field to plate Hutchins who reached on a fielder’s choice to the shortstop. Haylee Withee followed with a single of her own advancing Gilbert to third and setting the stage for one of Lerette’s three RBI of the game. The Mavericks plated their final five runs in the inning taking advantage of three Hurricane errors and a double from Kaci Mollison.
ON THE DAY:
The 14U Gold Lady Mavericks out hit and out scored their opponents 27-15 and 27-7 respectively. Six of their 27 hits were doubles and with smart base running they collected nine stolen bases. Chute pitched ten total innings giving up three earned runs on 12 hits and three walks while striking out six. Gilbert pitched a total of five innings allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out three. Gilbert lead the Mavericks at the plate going 6-9 on the day with five RBI and four runs scored including one extra base hit.
The Mavericks will head to Contoocook, New Hampshire en route to the tournament title Sunday, July 28th with their first game at 1:15PM.
